You will reach the property via Via Domitia, later renamed the Way of St. James. The domain is nestled between the Luberon and Verdon regional nature parks. Jean-Luc and Eloise decided to breathe new life in this vineyard, located in front of Les Mées extraordinary rock cliffs, once the reference for Haute-Provence wines. Here, the natural beauty of the site, combined with their fierce desire to produce authentic wines, gives birth to 100% organic vintages. The altitude (560 m) and temperature differences bring out the best in these excellent grapes. The Domaine also includes olive groves with 250 olive trees. Additionally, it is the first wine tourism establishment in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

Our wines

Jean-Luc and Éloïse were convinced that producing organic was the only way to go. Following Nature’s balanced rhythm, grapes are picked manually and the vineyard is fed by applying organic grain and sheep manure. The vines are pruned and processed according to the moon phases (waxing or waning moons). The wines contain less sulfites than Demeter allow (agricultural biodynamics label). Some of our vintages are stored in 750l Italian clay amphoras to echo the past.

Our Olive Oil

The olive grove, with its 250 trees, is located opposite the stunning landscape of Les Mees cliffs (known as ‘the Penitents’) at an altitude of 560m. The organic oil is mostly based on the ‘Aglandau’ olive variety, known for its juicy flesh and its fruity taste as well as its artichoke and almond aromas. It can however be bitter and sharp when young; this is why we mature it on its lees for 6 to 8 months, after being cold-pressed, ensuring its unique and balanced flavour.

Accomodation

The Domaine des Bergeries is the first wine tourism site in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region to be built around two completely renovated sheepfolds, whose stones date back to the 18th century. Travellers come to enjoy this relaxing setting all year around. Visits of the domain and in particular of the cellar, as well as tastings of our vintages are also available.
